Ultrasonic Cylinder Testing

Cyl-Tec operates 2 Digital Wave Corporation UE-1 ultrasonic scanning systems for re-testing and re-qualifying U.S.D.O.T. compressed gas cylinders. Ultrasound technology enables Cyl-Tec operators to more precisely and efficiently test high pressure cylinders.

The Digital Wave ultrasonic scanning systems use immersion technology. Immersion is the best way to transmit ultrasound and deal with cylinder irregularities. By using this advanced equipment and technology, Cyl-Tec provides its customers with the most thorough cylinder testing available.

  • Immersion Ultrasonic technology determines pinpoint wall thickness. Cyl-Tec's operators gain better information than traditional average wall thickness calculations.
  • Immersion Ultrasonic technology improves defect detection. The ultrasonic systems make it easier to uncover defects that may be growing in the cylinder. Ultrasonic testing automatically reveals corrosion much better than a traditional visual inspection.
  • Ultrasonic cylinder testing does not require valve removal. Ultrasonic technology reduces the potential for valve damage and replacement, and therefore reduces the overall cost to Cyl-Tec's customers.
  • Ultrasonic cylinder testing preserves the integrity of the interior of the cylinder. Since the cylinder valve does not need to be removed prior to testing, the cylinder is less likely to be exposed to interior contamination or rusting.
  • Ultrasonic cylinder testing is more environmentally friendly than hydrostatic testing. Ultrasonic technology does not use the huge volumes of water that hydrostatic uses, nor does it require hot water to dry the cylinders after testing since the interior of a cylinder tested by ultrasound is not exposed to water.
